The former Disney executive will oversee domestic and international TV productions, game show franchises and India business.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has filled its chairman role.

Former Disney Television president Ravi Ahuja has joined the studio and will serve as chairman of global TV studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment corporate development. He replaces former chairman Mike Hopkins, who departed a year ago for the top job at Amazon Studios.

In his new role, Ahuja will lead Sony Pictures Television's domestic and international productions, game show franchises and its India business. He additionally will oversee the studio's corporate development, mergers and M&A activities along with SPE chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra. Ahuja will report to Vinciquerra and begin work March 15.

“Ravi is an extraordinarily talented and proven executive with broad experience in nearly every aspect of our business,” said Vinciquerra. “Having worked directly with Ravi, I have seen first-hand his strategic, results-driven approach which has made him such a strong leader, and which I know will lead to further growth and success for SPE.  His decision to come to SPE is a testament to the studio’s strength and ability to attract great talent."

When Hopkins departed a year ago, Sony did not plan to replace his position. Instead, the indie studio reorganized and gave Keith LeGoy additional responsibilities that previously were carried out by Hopkins. LeGoy, who serves as SPE's president of worldwide distribution and  networks and also oversees Funimation, will continue to report to Vinciquerra and work in partnership with Ahuja on the television side.

“It was an easy call to join the amazing Sony Pictures management team and to work again with Tony,” said Ahuja. “With more ways to get more TV, great content has never been more valuable.  Sony Pictures Television is a tremendous studio, making some of the most acclaimed and watched shows in the world, like The Good Doctor, Cobra Kai, The Boys and The Crown – just to name a few.  And Sony Pictures is very well-positioned for the future, aligned with outstanding creators and focused on the success of its network and streaming partners.  I look forward to contributing to the company’s continued growth in this exciting time for our industry.”

During his tenure at Disney, Ahuja played a central role in the Mouse House's Fox acquisition. Following the merger, he served as president of business operations and CFO of Walt Disney Television, which included ABC, ABC News, Disney Channel, Disney TV Studios, Freeform, Hulu and Nat Geo. Before that, he was CFO at Fox Networks Group.
