Sony is playing games on the PS5 "exclusive" and is not fair to fans - Texasnewstoday.com

The PS5 was supposed to be a console that proved Sony’s belief for generations.

As you may have forgotten, when Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan asked Gamesindustry.biz specifically if PS5 games could be played on the PS4, Microsoft said Xbox Series X like Halo Infinite. Recall that, as suggested in the game, we said:

“We’ve always said we believe in generations. When we’re having a hard time creating the next generation of consoles, we believe we need to include features and benefits that weren’t included in the previous generation. And that’s in our view, people need to create games that take full advantage of those features. “

Ryan added: “We believe in generations, whether it’s a DualSense controller, 3D audio, whether SSDs can be used in multiple ways … The PlayStation community is really only on the PS5. It’s something new, something different that you can’t enjoy. “

Sony’s attitude towards the console generation was widely interpreted. PS5 monopoly is important and even necessary, and developers who want to make games for the PS5 don’t have to worry about being overwhelmed by older hardware. ..

Today, Ryan’s statement in May 2020 is not exactly in line with Sony’s actions.

Immediately after the PS5 showcase event held in September last year, Sony began withdrawing the idea of not bringing PS5 games to the PS4. It started with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy: Big Adventure, Horizon: Forbidden West.

However, it wasn’t announced during the PS5 showcase event seen by thousands of enthusiastic PlayStation fans. Instead, I chose to carefully reveal the news on my Sony PlayStation blog post.

In response to the news that surprised many, Ryan said: Ryan told the PlayStation blog. These three games are designed to take advantage of the PS5 and its unique next-generation features such as ultra-fast SSDs and DualSense controllers, but PS4 owners will also enjoy these experiences at launch.

It’s true that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure take advantage of PS5’s unique features such as the DualSense controller, but the fact that it’s fully playable on the PS4 is the first. It wouldn’t be too unreasonable to speculate that Sony intentionally held this information until the last moment in case it damaged the sale of the PS5, or why share it sooner. Didn’t you?

Sadly, Sony hung around other PS5 limited edition carrots, but in the end it only changed the story. God of War: When Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7 were announced, they both seemed to be PS5 only. In fact, Sony’s New and Upcoming Games trailer clearly shows that Gran Turismo 7 is exclusively for the PlayStation 5 (skip to the 23-second mark in the video below).

But in the end, it turned out that this may not be the case. In a long Q & A with Herman Halst, head of the PlayStation studio on the PlayStation blog, Sony once again revealed some surprises.

Hulst said: “If it makes sense to develop both PS4 and PS5 titles (Holizon Forbidden West, next God of War, GT7), we will continue to consider, and the PS4 owner If you want to play that game, they can play it. If they want to continue playing the PS5 version, that game is for them. “

We won’t see Kratos’ next adventure until 2022, but God of War and Gran Turismo 7 will almost certainly be released on Sony’s aging hardware.

Now, from a business perspective, I have a complete understanding of Sony’s logic. With over 110 million PS4 consoles sold by Sony, it’s still harder to find a PS5 inventories than a snow leopard in a blizzard. So it makes perfect sense to support PlayStation 4, especially with new content from Sony’s first-party studios.

But there are millions of people who bought the PS5, backed by Sony’s original promise, and I can’t help but feel angry. Sony may be accused of being deliberately shy about how to fine-tune the definition of what constitutes a true PS5 exclusive. And even now, there is no clear confirmation that God of War and GT7 are PS5 only. The PS4 version seems to be mostly guaranteed based on an interview with Hurst, but it’s not clear.

The truth hurts

Halo Infinite

What makes Sony’s behavior even more unpleasant is that Microsoft has been criticized for admitting that the Xbox One received it at the launch of games like the Xbox Series X’s first-party-only Halo Infinite. The company even said that the Xbox One will receive a limited game for at least a year. This will often result in the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S being postponed, or the console will not be able to provide a true next-generation experience.

That may have been true to some extent, or disappointing news for some, but consumers knew exactly what they were buying, at least for Microsoft’s new machine. If you wanted to wait for a true next-generation experience, you didn’t have to rush to buy a new Xbox from day one to play the latest titles.

But Sony wasn’t very positive. And, as we’ve seen several times before, it’s got into the habit of pulling out players and only reveals the real details later.

This approach is naive at best and, in the worst case, seems dishonest. Sony has decided to withhold this important information, so some people will sell the PS4 just to play games that they thought weren’t available on the system.

Playstation only

Ratchet & Clank: Lift Apart

Currently, the only titles that can be classified as a true PS5 monopoly in 2021 are Astros Playroom, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank Lift Apartment, and Deathloop. Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade can be discussed to some extent, but even if the Intergrade version adds PS5-specific content, most of the game already exists on the PS4.

And to be honest, if Sony is clear from the beginning, the lineup is perfectly fine.

Holizon: I don’t personally agree with the idea that Forbidden West isn’t great because it’s underdeveloped due to PS4 limitations. Please sympathize with those who feel fooled.

Sony needs to be more transparent in the future, and ensure that people don’t make purchasing decisions based on potentially misleading announcements or previously apparently shared information. You also need to remember that you have a responsibility to clarify the message.
