When Will Sony Let ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Back On The PlayStation Store? - Forbes

It has been 51 days since Sony removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store entirely, just over a week after the game launched on December 10, 2020, and it’s been gone since December 18.

It was in response to both the game not working well at all on PlayStation 4, and CDPR directing people to Sony to ask for refunds, when Sony had a longstanding policy not to refund digital purchases, which they changed, due to the unprecedented situation with Cyberpunk.

Here in early February, that ban remains in place. As you can see below, searching for Cyberpunk 2077 will not yield you the game, even an “unavailable” version of it. It’s still just gone, even after a number of hotfixes and patches meant to improve the game’s performance.

In truth…not all that much has been fixed with Cyberpunk 2077 over the last two months. Yes, these hotfixes have arrived, but the game remains littered with bugs, and while it may perform better in some aspects on older consoles, I don’t think anyone would say it’s “good” yet. So the question stands, when will Sony let Cyberpunk return to the store? Because not only is it shelving the rocky PS4 version, there is no PS5 specific version of the game, so players of that sales record-breaking new console where it performs better cannot pick it up digitally at this point either.

MORE FOR YOU

One thing CDPR has done is go kind of all-out giving refunds to anyone that wants them, in extreme cases, even refunding physical copies without the player sending the game itself back yet. But the main problem remains the game itself, and I have to wonder what the “tipping point” will be that will get Sony to relent.

The game’s largest performance patch is supposed to arrive in February at some point, Update 1.2. But Update 1.1 was also supposed to be larger than anything that had come before, but the most noticeably thing it did was create a game-breaking bug in the main storyline that had to be hotfixed later. This week, the game got another hotfix that plugged a hole where hackers posing as modders could infiltrate your game and platform.

The point is, it’s been almost two full months since launch and a “day zero” patch and the game really does not seem to be in all that much better shape than it was initially, and has introduced some new problems to boot. It’s possible that Update 1.2 in a few weeks will be the patch that fixes the game enough for Sony to allow it back on the PS Store, but given how small the 1.1 patch felt, it’s hard to know what to believe if we’re going purely based on what CDPR has said.

The game’s free DLC has been pushed to late spring or summer, it seems like. The next-gen versions of the game will probably not arrive until the fall now, a disappointment to many who believed they would arrive just a few months after launch. Clean up, is quite simply, going very slowly, it feels like.

My guess is that Update 1.2 could be the turning point where Sony finally lets Cyberpunk back on the PS Store. But they will likely need to wait to see if it arrives with any more bad buys like 1.1 did first. If not then, I don’t know when, frankly, and Sony may hold this grudge for quite a while.
