The Sony WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds have surfaced, and appear to have a brand new design and that rests more flush with the ear. According XDA-Developers, a leaked Reddit image from user Key_Attention4766 suggests the earphones retain the same matte black and gold-accented aesthetic as before.
A leaked image of the box reveals a few interesting specs. The Sony WF-1000XM4 retain active noise-cancelling, which we saw from the famed Sony WF-1000XM3, and will provide six hours of playback on a single charge with an extra 18 hours from the case. The box also features the Hi-Res Audio (Wireless) certification stamp, which could be indicative of LDAC support.
This leaked image confirms nothing, but it’s safe to assume that the Sony WF-1000XM4 true wireless earbuds will include noise-cancelling as the Sony WH-1000XM4 did. Other features like improved battery life are par for the course. We expect to see updated Bluetooth firmware — perhaps Bluetooth 5.1 — and an IP water-resistance rating as well.
With the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, and of course, the Apple AirPods Pro, Sony has plenty of competitors to fend off in the true wireless space. This story is ongoing, and we’ll update you as more information comes to light.
