PS5's Download Queue Glitch Gets A Quick Fix From Sony - Screen Rant

Sony has released a patch for a major PlayStation 5 bug that forced games to be downloading in perpetuity. The bug was reported earlier this month following the console's explosive launch, which saw the machine so high in demand that it routinely crashed retailer websites. The bug, most commonly reported with games like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, caused titles to begin queueing for download but never making any progress. Gamers were stumped and frustrated, and some developers like Activision recommended a full factory reset to solve the issue.

No new console is without bugs, and the PlayStation 5 is certainly proving that it's no exception. Numerous issues have been reported, not just with the console, but with the DualSense controllers. Players are reporting that the DualSense won't charge when the console is in rest mode. Rest mode has actually been the source of a lot of problems with the PlayStation 5, to the point that many fans are simply opting to turn the whole feature off until Sony comes out with an update that makes the console more functional when at rest.

Sony is actively working to fix these issues; recently the company finally addressed the notorious perpetual download glitch that's been haranguing gamers since launch. Sony announced the new fix on the Ask PlayStation Twitter account (via MobileSyrup) and walked players through the process of rescuing their console. After updating the system software, all players must do is launch the console in Safe Mode. After that, rebuilding the database from the console's Safe Mode Options menu should resolve the bug and get the PlayStation 5 back in working order.

Anticipation for the PlayStation 5 has been high for at least a year. Sony promised a lot of exciting next-gen improvements, like better graphics, smoother gameplay, and drastically shortened loading times. It's hard to imagine how devastating it must be to brave the struggles of retail and emerge as one of the lucky few who are actually in possession of a coveted PS5, only to find the machine unusable thanks to a glitch.

It's good to know that PlayStation is already addressing these issues. There are too many problems already surrounding the launch of the PS5, including some Amazon UK customers getting scammed out of their new consoles, opening their package to find random items like an air fryer or a box of cat food instead of the next-gen machine they'd paid for. In the face of such preposterous issues, patching out glitches is the least Sony can do. Hopefully this is the first step to a smoother and more functional PS5 experience for everybody.
