Sony Is Reportedly Scaling Back The PlayStation Store On Web And Mobile - GameSpot

As we get closer to the release of Sony's next generation of consoles, the company is reportedly updating the PlayStation Store to push the PS3, PS Vita, and PSP a little further out of the limelight. According to a report by French website Planète Vita, the PlayStation storefronts on web and mobile will soon get rid of a number of product categories, including the older consoles.

The leak shows a message sent by Sony Interactive Entertainment about the upcoming change, which Planète Vita acquired from a reliable source.

The biggest change is that PS3, PSP, and PS Vita games will no longer be able to be purchased from mobile or web storefronts. They will only be available through the store apps on the PS3 or PS Vita. Notably, the PSP store on the device was discontinued back in 2016, meaning PSP players will only be able to digitally purchase games through a PS3 or PS Vita.

The change will also remove the ability to buy apps, themes and avatars through the mobile or web stores--these items will still be available for purchase on the console storefront, however. The changes won't impact any content already purchased for any device.

According to the message acquired by Planète Vita, the changes are set to come into effect on October 19 on web, and October 28 through the mobile app.
