Microsoft has revealed the most important details of its Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, including the prices and release date. Sony continues to keep us in the dark over the PlayStation 5, but that may change this week.

Over the weekend, the PlayStation.Blog confirmed that Sony is set to hold a PlayStation 5 Showcase on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4pm ET/1pm PT. Sony describes the event as a "digital showcase," and it will "feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners."

The live streamed event is set to last for around 40 minutes and the focus is clearly on games, however, it's also an opportunity for Sony to respond to Microsoft's reveal of pricing and release date. Assuming Sony has already decided how much the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition will cost, sharing those details on Wednesday would end a lot of frustration.

Microsoft opens pre-orders for the new Xbox consoles on Sept. 22, which is reason enough for Sony to get the focus back on its new hardware as soon as possible. Late last month, Sony started preparing for the launch with invite-only pre-orders promised soon. Keep your fingers crossed and tune into the live stream on Wednesday to hopefully learn a lot more about the launch.
