It’s not every day that you get $10 for doing basically nothing, but, apparently, it is at least some days. Sony seems to be crediting some PlayStation Plus users with a free $10 in store credit, and tons of people are reporting just sort of seeing the free money show up in their notifications. According to GameSpot, there’s no need to add a code or anything, if you’re among the chosen it will just show up in your wallet.
What remains unclear, at this point, is who is getting the money, and why. I just checked my own notifications, and there’s no $10 in there. Over on the PlayStation Plus subreddit, there exists a pretty stark divide between people pleased that they got $10, and a bunch of people definitely not pleased that they did not get $10. Nobody seems to have been able to figure out what governs
It’s entirely possible that these things are just getting sent out slowly, and that those of us not yet anointed buy PlayStation Plus will receive our rewards in good time. It’s also possible that this is somehow tied to the length of membership, and that some people just won’t get it.
It’s sort of a funny thing, though the net result is currently just that some people had $10 when they did not have $10 before, so that’s not such a bad thing. So far, the 10th anniversary of Playstation PLus hasn’t been all that exciting: the free games were sort of par for the course, with NBA 2k20 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. The special bonuses were the free game Erica, as well as a special PS4 theme. Not a huge punctuation mark, overall.
$10, however, is a nice little bonus. We’ll keep paying attention and seeing if more people get the notification, or if there turns out to be some sort of reasoning behind who gets it and who doesn’t. In the meantime, the summer sale is going on, so see if there’s anything there that piques your fancy for under $10.
